@Polychrome Official translators are professionals. They have deadlines
@hramrach@stranger.social @Polychrome@poly.cybre.city Which is just another way of saying the publisher isn't willing to spend enough money on it.
@orangelantern @Polychrome And you couldn't tell unless those pesky fansubs existed
@hramrach@stranger.social @Polychrome@poly.cybre.city Oh I could if a sub, dub or translation is incomplete, bad or suspiciously short. I did translations and I know what gets thrown overboard when time (meaning money) is short.
Inaccurate or bad/lazy translations in games, animation and movies in general are a pet peeve of mine.
@hramrach @Polychrome And yet fansubs manage to be released within hours of the episode airing…
@jernej__s @Polychrome Can you imagine the 'productivity' drop if 'professional' translators took hours to translate a single anime episode?
@hramrach @Polychrome Those hours include typesetting (including animating all the moving signs) and at least one QC pass (or at least they did back when I was doing this).
